Which new Marvel project are you most excited about?
Marvel just rocked the recently-concluded San Diego Comic Con 2019 by unveiling the details for their upcoming movie and television projects for 2020 and 2021. For the longest time, fans have been wondering about what will happen next after the shocking events of Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. And now we finally have the full announcement from the film studio.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, took the mic at SDCC and revealed the timeline for their next releases, calling the cast members and directors to join him on stage. Now everyone’s thrilled about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Check out the full list of the upcoming MCU projects and their expected release dates here:
It took a long time but our first female Marvel badass Natasha Romanoff is finally getting her own movie. How is she alive again after what happened in Vormir? Well according to Feige, Black Widow will be a prequel film and will be set in Budapest where she will be fighting the villainous Task Master.
Scarlett Johansson stars as the title character. Other announced cast members include David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Rachel Weisz.
After inheriting Steve Rogers’ shield in Endgame, we’ll finally see Falcon (Anthony Mackie) suit up as the new Captain America in this Disney+ series. He will be starring side by side with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and they will be dealing with the return of ‘Civil War’ baddie Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl)
Based on the comic book characters created by Jack ‘King’ Kirby, The Eternals is about a “group of immortals who’ve been in Earth for 35,000 years”, as described by Feige.
Eternals will feature the powerhouse cast of Angelina Jolie as Thena, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Ma Dong-Seok as Forgotten One, Richard Madden as Ikaris, and Salma Hayek as Ajak.
Marvel’s first movie starring an Asian lead, Shang-Chi is going to be a martial arts action film. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the movie while Simu Liu will be portraying Shang-Chi.
Feige likewise confirmed that the real Mandarin, who was played by an actor/impersonator named Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) in Iron Man 3, will appear in this flick.
Power couple Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) will also have their own Disney+ series.
Teyonah Parris will play the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, who we last saw as a young girl in Captain Marvel. At some point in the comic, Monica herself became Captain Marvel and so we just have to wait and see if the show gives her a super power as well.
Billed as Marvel’s first horror offering, this Doctor Strange sequel will star Benedict Cumberbatch with Scott Derrickson directing the film. Scarlet Witch will also be in the movie.
Another Disney+ series to look forward to is Loki starring fan favorite Tom Hiddleston. The story follows the events in Endgame where we saw the Asgardian god of mischief running away with the Tesseract in 2012.
The first animated series from Marvel, What If? will give us alternate takes on the characters and stories we’ve grown to love. What if Peter Parker never became Spider-Man? What if Captain America never got frozen in ice? What if Ultron won?
Although considered non-Canon, most MCU actors and actresses will be voicing their characters for this Disney+ series so this should be very interesting.
We’ve seen Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton become the darker, angrier character Ronin in Avengers: Endgame. We’ll see more of that in this series, plus it’s been said that he will be training his daughter as the new Hawkeye.
After the box-office success of Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi is back with Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie). The biggest surprise here, however, is that Natalie Portman is also returning as Jane Foster – and she will be playing the new Thor.
As if all those announcements weren’t extremely satisfying enough, Feige further mentioned that Black Panther 2, Guardian of the Galaxy Vol 4, and Captain Marvel 2 are all currently in development. Plus he also name-dropped the Fantastic 4 and the “mutants” (X-Men) and he revealed actor Mahershala Ali will be the new Blade for an upcoming reboot.
