He got 100 strangers to dance silly in front of a camera.
When people travel, it’s either for business or leisure. Now there are those who wander for a simple but very powerful purpose – to bring people together, even if they are strangers. It sounds rather grandiose when you think about it, especially if you add language barrier as factor, but this guy Matt Bray was able to do so using a universal language – dance.
This ambitious project had Matt going on a 10,000-mile road trip around U.S. and Canada for his YouTube channel called ProjectOneLife. In the span of 2 months, he was able to meet 100 people whom he taught a simple dance routine for the song “Gone” by JR JR.
He went to different spots, from city landmarks, rural wonders, and music festivals. These served as beautiful backdrops for the dances that he and these strangers did which are all caught on video.
After getting everything on tape, Matt edited the footages by splicing different dance moves and making one big compilation from it. It’s amazing to see complete strangers gamely agreeing to do a silly-looking dance. Some of them were even wearing funny outfits to match! The dance became a sort of equalizer; no matter what age or nationality you are, you can DANCE. We can imagine Matt having a tricky time convincing some people to dance while being videotaped, plus add the language barrier.
It was indeed a unique experience for Matt.
“Filming this video was one of the craziest experiences I have ever had in my life. It took 2 months of filming and a month and a half was spent living out on the road driving all around the USA and Canada, I drove a little over 10,000 miles. This video was incredibly difficult to film and edit, so hopefully people find a little enjoyment out of this. Huge thanks to everyone that danced with me and helped film the video. Meet so many amazing people, got to see so many friends, it was an experience of a lifetime.”
