Couple Celebrates 65 Years of Marriage and Their Photos are Both Sweet and Heartbreaking

With the increasing (and quite alarming) number of divorces across the world, it seems finding couples who have stayed strong throughout the years is becoming rarer and rarer. No one seems to value marriage and commitment anymore these days.

And then, every once in a while, you hear stories such as this one which makes you realize that, yes, true love still exists. And it can be forever.

Love is real and it can last forever.

This post is about an adorable couple named Harold and Ruby. The pair has recently been featured in BoredPanda by photographer Megan Vaughan who took their snapshots as they celebrated their 60th and 65th wedding anniversaries.

Harold and Ruby recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a photoshoot.

Photographer Megan Vaughan took the images and shared the couple’s inspiring yet heartbreaking story online.

According to Megan,

“I was gifted with the honor of shooting Ruby and Harold for their 60th wedding anniversary. Five years later, I was gifted again to document their love of 65 years. Harold is the exact same as I remember him. Cutting jokes and always smiling. Sadly, Ruby’s dementia has worsened.”

Ruby’s dementia has “worsened,” according to the photographer.

“She didn’t remember me or the last time we took pictures together,” wrote Megan.

“She didn’t remember me or the last time we took pictures together. When she greeted me at the door, she wrapped me up in a tight hug… just like you would hug family you hadn’t seen in a long time. I told her I was so excited to see her and she said, ‘Well, I wish I knew why!’ But wow, her personality was just as sassy as ever!”

A long-lasting love deserves to be “celebrated, documented, cherished, remembered” Megan pointed out.

The photographer further shared,

“It’s so sad to know that she won’t remember me or the wonderful time we had together. But she’ll enjoy looking at the pictures and that’s exactly why a photographer’s job is so important. It’s so amazing to see a long-lasting love like theirs! I believe it should be celebrated, documented, cherished, remembered and something to strive for.”

It’s definitely inspiring to see relationships that stand the test of time, enduring hardships together and not simply looking at divorce as a quick fix for their troubles.
