Two cops have been injured because of the attacks.
A drug cartel in Mexico recently attacked a local police headquarters by dropping bombs using drones. According to reports, two cops were injured near the city of Aguilila, Michoacán as a result of the explosions.
Moreover, we learn that authorities named the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) as the group responsible for the attack, although a representative later denied the claim and said it was their rivals who used the drones to “heat up the plaza.”
Despite that, analyst Robert Bunker of C/O Futures still believes:
“CJNG is at the forefront of such drone utilization, with this incident representing the first one in which actual blood has now been drawn.“
Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, who is Secretary of Defense in Mexico acknowledged that the drone bombings are “worrisome” but also added they have “not been as effective” after its failure to make serious damage because the devices couldn’t carry heavy explosives. One person has already been arrested, according to González.
Meanwhile, the injured police officers have immediately been rushed to the hospital and have since been released following their treatment.
In an Al Jazeera exclusive report, we learn that hundreds of Aguililla residents have fled the place due to the worsening fight between two drug cartels, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the United Cartels.
The gangs have likewise blocked the roads to prevent authorities from reaching the area. The drones appear to be the drug groups’ latest weapons as they battle each other, the police, and local vigilantes getting in their way.
