Would you even consider giving up your child to be with the man you love?
Moms consider their kids as their world and they’ll do anything for them. Whatever it takes, a mother will not abandon her child. But for one divorcee, who’s somewhat found a new love, giving up her son is considered an option.
The woman in question wrote to relationship advice blog, Dear Wendy, explaining how she’s feeling stuck now that she has found a guy she wants to marry. According to the anonymous sender, she has joint custody of her son with her ex-husband while her fiance, who also happens to be divorced, has a daughter but is solely under the custody of his ex-wife.
And you would think she’ll storm off and break off the engagement after hearing her fiance’s condition but the woman actually had a different response. She was thinking of giving up her son but only worries about what her parents might feel. She shared that her mother suffers from depression and her father has cancer. Her primary concern, it seems, is that her parents would feel sad if they’ll lose their grandson.
She also said that she only gets to see her son and spend time with him on alternate weekends. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, doesn’t go to see or bond with his daughter. And she also wrote:
“I want to be with my boyfriend and yet I can’t bear to let my parents feel sad because of their illnesses.”
At the end of her letter, the woman admitted that she had “mother’s guilt” because she knows how her son loves her so much. You may be one of the many readers who will feel appalled by this woman’s behavior but Wendy, the letter recipient, can’t believe what she just read.
“Yeah, no sh*t you have “mother’s guilt.” You’re willing to give up the little bit of time you have with your son, which is already a depressingly small amount, for a monster of a man who doesn’t see his own child and doesn’t think you should see yours? Shame on you. Are you so lonely and so desperate for a husband that you would cast away your own child?”
Apparently, Wendy isn’t happy at all and was even blunt enough to advise her to seek help and figure out what’s wrong with her.
