‘Real-Life Rapunzel’ Sets World Record for Her Extremely Lengthy Hair

After a bad haircut, she decided she'll never cut her hair anymore. Now she's a world record holder!

Sure, we all grew up with the fairy tale ‘Rapunzel’ and most of us have seen the animated Disney feature. Despite that, we’re willing to bet none of us have heard “Rapunzel, let down your hair” as often as this teen from India.

Meet 16-year-old Nilanshi Patel of Gujarat, India – a certified Guinness World record holder for having the longest hair on a teenager. How long exactly is her hair, you ask? Well it measures 5 ft 7 inches (170.5 cm) in length!

According to Nilanshi, she officially started growing her since she was 6 years old, after having a terrible experience with the hairdressers.

The teen shared:

“I got my hair cut, a really bad haircut. So, then I decided that I won’t cut my hair. I decided that when I was six and have not cut it since.”

While maintaining her hair isn’t an easy thing, her mother has always been a such huge support for her.

In a Guinness report, we learn that “washing her flowing hair is an arduous task, which she undertakes once a week.” Furthermore, we learn that the hair “takes half an hour to dry and one hour to comb; tasks which Nilanshi’s mother helps her with.”

While haircare takes a bit of work for Nilanshi, she said she has no plans of getting it cut anytime soon. Besides, she’s able to enjoy a normal life despite her lengthy brown locks.

As she explained:

“People think that I face so many problems with my hair, but I don’t face any problems, I do sports and all the things with my hair. It’s a lucky charm for me!”

Moreover, she gets to have fun with it all the time!

“I style it is as a long braid or as a bun on the top of my head. When I am going to an occasion, or when I am playing table tennis, I bun my hair on my head so that it is comfortable for me.”
