What a man!
Fairy tales exist! This is what a 35-year-old resident of Walsall, West Mids proved as he set up the probably most romantic surprise for his long-time 32-year-old partner named Tara Barber.
Waking up as early as 4:00a.m., Paul Bakewell assisted in decorating his lovey dovey’s usual way to work with a giant billboard that will greet her with a 20ft-tall, 30ft-wide billboard carrying the message: “Tara you’ve changed my life. Will you marry me?”
As easy as it may sound, father of 11-year-old Ellie revealed that he was hesitant at first since the billboard is already sold. “I knew there was a billboard and I started looking into how I could pay to take out a poster two weeks ago. But when I inquired I found HomeServe had bought the space so I approached them.” Lucky for him, the odds were with him and they agreed to let him use the ad space.
With Barber’s boss as an accomplice for the big event, the bride-to-be never had a clue that the supposed business meeting will be the best meeting that will change her life 180°.
“I’m from just down the road and I know Tara drives this way into work in Walsall every day so I arranged for her boss to drive her there pretending they had a meeting”, he said.
Confused with the number of people crowding one side of the road, Barber’s boss pulled the car over.
“My boss pulled over and I thought there had been a car accident because there were so many people by the side of the road. Then she started crying and I saw the billboard and my legs just went to jelly, I couldn’t feel them at all”, Barber shared.
Mother-of-six-year-old son named Carrick, completely lost it and just can’t stop crying as soon as she got a glimpse of the sizzling photos with her beau not to mention the screaming caption. All this time, her family and friends were all excitedly waiting for Mr. Romantico to appear and pop the big question of the day.
“When she arrived she was so shocked and I think more nervous than me when she realised what was happening”, Bakewell recalled.
Despite being the macho that he is, Bakewell admitted of being nervous and lacking enough sleep for two consecutive days before the big day.
“It was definitely the scariest thing I have ever done in my life. I was putting myself out there in front of so many people but I was confident she would say yes. I have never been so nervous in my life planning this. It was completely nerve-wracking, I hadn’t slept for two days before Friday. I had been to ask her dad first to do it the traditional way and her family said she would say yes. She didn’t have a clue. I thought it would be something special to make a grand gesture”, he said.
With the rising number of grand gestures of proposals flooding Youtube almost every now and then, Bakewell’s romantic public display of affection has truly set the trends on how every woman should be treated. He was also thankful for Homeserve who had assisted him preparing the ultimate surprise saying:
“They were completely brilliant and designed the poster and worked with me to arrange the day. I wanted to do something different. Anyone can propose at a table at a restaurant or at home but I wanted it to be something she would remember”, Bakewell narrated.
As for the speechless bride, Barber obviously said one thing that would equate the whole theatrical play… she said YES!
“I had no hesitation to saying yes. It was incredible, we’ll never forget this. It was the best day of my life and I am glad he did a grand gesture”, she said.
