Beauty comes in all forms and sizes.
People say beauty is subjective – what may be beautiful in one culture may be unacceptable in another. Each country, for example, has its own definition of an “ideal” beautiful woman.
Based on this premise, the UK-based online service “Superdrug Online Doctors” conducted a survey in several countries across the globe in order to determine how different cultures perceived beauty.
According to the company, the project aimed “to better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world.” In order to achieve this goal, a stock photo of a woman was given to female graphic designers in 18 countries and they were tasked to photoshop the photo according to the “ideal beauty” in their respective countries.
When the results came back, they were astounding.
Most of the retouched photos showed women who were more voluptuous and had beautiful fair skin, which just goes to show that society is still exerting pressure on women to look good. However, as proven by the survey, beauty comes in all forms and sizes; therefore, what is important is to make yourself feel good. Furthermore, beauty should not only be judged according to physical appearance – your core values and character also matter.
