What a great gesture of kindness and love!
Good police officers are some of our modern-day heroes. They serve and protect the public in many meaningful ways. For one female cop from Argentina, it meant sharing her breastmilk with someone else’s baby – and doing so led to her promotion.
Police officer Celeste Ayala was assigned at Beunos Aires’ Sor Maria Ludovica children’s hospital. While she was there, a “smelly and dirty” baby was brought in and she later decided to feed him upon realizing the child was hungry.
According to reports, we learn that the baby was crying in distress upon arrival. Seeing that the hospital staff were extremely busy, Ayala sought permission from the doctors to hold and feed the child.
“Permission was given and Ayala cuddled the baby and started to breastfeed him, after which he stopped crying immediately,” wrote the DailyMail.
She added:
“It was a sad moment, it broke my soul seeing him like this, society should be sensitive to the issues affecting children, it cannot keep happening.”
The hospital staff even described the child as “dirty” but the policewoman definitely didn’t mind.
According to Heredia:
“I want to make public this great gesture of love you made today for this little baby who you did not know, but for who you did not hesitate to act like a mother. You did not care if he was dirty, which is what the hospital staff called him. Good job mate.”
Cristian Ritondo, Buenos Aires’ minister of security, later heard about the story and decided to promote Ayala from officer to sergeant.
Ritondo posted on Twitter:
“Today we received Celeste, the officer who breast-fed a baby to notify her of her promotion. We wanted to thank her in person for that gesture of spontaneous love that managed to calm the baby’s cry. The police that make us proud, the police we want.”
They recently paid tribute to her on social media by writing:
“We want to congratulate the voluntary firefighting cadet Celeste Ayala who yesterday in her job as police officer whilst she was on guard duty at the hospital, breastfed a young child who arrived crying.
“Actions like these fill us with pride and obligate us to redouble the effort, the work and the solidarity with our community.”
