His dad left when he was 12. Now he's helping children who do not have a father figure in the home.
“Heartwarming” may be the last word you’ll use to describe most how-to YouTube channels out there. But yes, we feel like it’s an apt word for this case.
55-year-old Rob Kenney has gained fame on the video-streaming service after creating his ‘Dad, How Do I?’ channel where he teaches life skills to his viewers. What sets him apart from others, however, is his motivation and sincerity.
You see, Rob grew up without a father because his dad left when he was just 12 years of age. Now a dad of two himself, he vowed to help other children who may also be without a father figure in the home by uploading tutorial videos on basic stuff such as shaving, fixing running toilets, unclogging a bathtub drain, ironing a dress shirt, and checking air pressure on tires, among many others.
In his channel’s about section, Rob wrote he aims to “provide useful, practical content to many basic tasks that everyone should know how to do.”
As he told Shattered:
“My goal in my life was to raise good adults. I never wanted to be wealthy. I never wanted to be necessarily successful. My goal in life was to raise good adults – not good children but good adults – because I had a fractured childhood.”
One commenter said:
“This man deserves an award for being the internet’s best dad.”
Another remarked:
“As someone who never had a dad in the picture., I totally relate to your story in wanting to do this. This is so helpful!”
