Haters gonna hate but the Twilight star IS the new Batman!
it looks like DC and Warner Bros have finally found their new Batman. Months after actor Ben Affleck announced his departure from the role, we now have word that Twilight star Robert Pattinson will be donning the cape and cowl in the upcoming Batman trilogy of movies under acclaimed director Matt Reeves.
According to earlier reports, Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult were the top contenders for the role but the job eventually went to the former. The casting has since gained mixed reactions among fans of the Dark Knight.
Although there still isn’t an official announcement from Warner Bros or DC, director Matt Reeves has seemingly confirmed the casting on Twitter by sharing a GIF of the actor with 3 bats as its caption.
Some fans immediately embraced the new Batman, even taking time to create fan art featuring Pattinson.
Still, there are others who are hesitant about the actor, saying they believe he would be terrible in the role.
Of course, so much of the negativity regarding Pattinson’s casting is from movie fans who dislike him for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga.
However, it should be noted that Pattinson has since starred in many different projects, proving his versatility in the craft.
As the SlashFilm website puts it, Pattinson has “built up one hell of a respectable career.”
The site explained:
“In David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, Pattinson delivers a cold, calculated performance as a young narcissistic billionaire becoming slowly unmoored. The Childhood of a Leader has Pattinson playing two very different roles, one completely silent but still haunting in its intensity. The young performer goes for full-blown character actor, sporting a big beard and firing off pithy, memorable lines in the criminally under-seen The Lost City of Z. Good Time has Pattinson doing the best acting of his career, playing a low-life New York City dirtbag over the course of one very long, nasty night. Claire Denis’s sci-fi oddity High Life traps Pattinson in space, with the actor delivering a hard-edged, rough, emotionally fractured performance. The fact of the matter is, Robert Pattinson has proved himself to be one of the most interesting actors of his generation, always up for a challenge, always willing to stretch himself beyond his comfort zone.
So far, we know that Reeves is currently polishing the movie script. And while no official date has been revealed regarding the release of the first Batman film, reports are telling us that “filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020.”
