Recently, Sacha placed himself in real danger during filming some scenes for the second Borat film. This intense footage shows the actor disguised as “Country Steve,” while playing his Borat character as he went onstage at a “March for Our Rights’ gun rally in Washington State.
He performed in front of the crowd, doing a song about infecting former U.S. President Barack Obama with COVID-19. Doing this was really risky since a lot in the crowd that carried guns.
Soon enough, some of the people at the rally realized that they were being trolled and shouted protests at the actor singing onstage.
A number of them rushed to the stage to get to Sacha. The actor, realizing the danger, rushed off the stage, with his private security following on his heels.
He got into his getaway car – an ambulance – and shut himself in. The angry protesters tried to get into the vehicle and the footage shows Sacha using all his strength to hold back the doors.
He shouted at the driver to drive off to get away from the mob.
The actor tweeted the clip, in which he captioned: “This was not the easiest movie to make.”
During an interview with Time magazine about the incident, Sacha revealed that he was lucky to make it out in one piece.
Recounting the incident, Sacha said: “When organizers finally stormed the stage, I rushed to a nearby get-away vehicle. An angry crowd blocked our way and started pounding on the vehicle with their fists. Under my overalls, I was wearing a bulletproof vest, but it felt inadequate with some people outside toting semi-automatic weapons.”
The footage was first aired in an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He added that it was the first film in which he had to wear a bulletproof vest.
He also revealed that one of the protesters who went up to the stage was about to reach for his pistol, but was stopped just in time by a guard who told him that “It’s not worth it, buddy.”
