It can clutch your forearm, get sweaty palms, and even release the smell of a woman's shampoo.
Are you feeling lonely and looking for a hand to hold? If you simply have no one to hold hands with and looking for one is just not feasible at the moment, then these Japanese scientists has what you’re looking for: a hand that you can hold whenever you wish, if you don’t mind a robotic one that is!
Gifu University recently built a robot hand which they named “Osampo Kanojo” which roughly translates to “My Girlfriend in Walk,” according to the engineers. The hand is designed to feel like a real human hand – and even smell like one.
The aim is to give some comfort and companionship for lonely people, especially now that the pandemic has restricted face-to-face human interaction. The hand can clasp one’s forearm, so a person can let go of it without the robot dropping to the ground.
It can also squeeze someone’s hand back and even get sweaty falms – it releases liquid through the pores of its outer layer, which resembles human flesh.
If that’s not enough, the hand is equipped with a small speaker that will produce the sound of footsteps as you walk AND also release the smell of a woman’s shampoo.
“For some people, finding a girlfriend is very difficult,” the researchers said. So they created this robot hand so that lonely men can “experience holding their girlfriend’s hand more easily” than by actually dating.
This is obviously made for men (or lesbians) but the engineers are planning to roll out a male version of this hand. The features would be similar except for the smell, which would release scents of cologne, barbecue charcoal, or maybe even motor oil.
