Ready, set, goal!
A new upcoming year gives us all the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past, evaluate where we currently are, and look forward to the future. No wonder, people always love coming up with their own personal resolutions as they brace for the New Year.
The challenge for many, however, is to stay consistent with the goals they set for the next 12 months. It isn’t always easy and many fall through between the cracks, with some completely stopping on pursuing their plans as early as February.
How do you avoid such pitfalls and make sure that you make it until the end of the year? Well here are 6 surefire tips to consider as you set your New Year’s resolutions:
Be specific about what you want to achieve. If you want to lose weight, specify how many pounds you hope to shed. If you’re aiming to start saving money, ask yourself about how much you want to save. This gives you a clear vision which will help you determine if you’re hitting the target or not.
Now that you have your goals in mind, break them down into bite-sized goals so they do not seem as overwhelming. Set short-term goals you can do on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. All in all, these smaller steps will lead you to closer and closer to your larger objective.
As an old adage tells us, an unwritten goal is only a wish. So be sure to record your resolution and place it somewhere you can often see it. For example, you may want to write your goals down in a piece of paper and stick it on your wall. That way, you can always see it and be reminded throughout the entire year. This beats merely posting a status on Facebook!
Keep in mind that it’s okay to share your goals with others, especially with people you truly trust such as your spouse, family members, or close friends. It always helps to have a support system that will help you stay on track – and remind you in case you drift off your course.
Monitoring your progress from time to time is always crucial. Doing so will give you a picture whether you are succeeding or failing in your efforts. Never let failure stop you from trying. Remember that every goal requires hard work and determination. Keep pushing and you’ll have better chances of achieving your goals in the long run.
Now this is the fun part! Be sure to reward yourself when you hit important milestones in your goal. Go buy yourself a new book or any other item you may be interested in. Treat yourself to a fancy dinner, watch a concert, or maybe get a spa or something. Doing this can help you stay motivated.
Good luck with your 2020 New Year’s resolutions and may you achieve all of them!
