Childbirth can be glamorous afterall!
Ask any mother about it and they’ll easily tell you – childbirth is not for the faint of heart. In fact, many women will say it is one of the most painful moments they’ve ever experienced in their lives.
A new trend that’s been making rounds on social media is showing us how some mothers are determined to look glamorous before giving birth to their babies. They do it by wearing makeup so they can be Instagram-ready soon after childbirth.
Sounds like a strange idea, you say? Well actually, it’s not very uncommon at all.
According to a BoredPanda feature, “64% of women aged 18 to 31 get beauty treatments before going into labor, including hair removal (65%), a manicure (57%), pedicure (43%), spray tan (37%) or a blow-dry, cut or styling (32%).”
In 2016, New York-based makeup artist Alaha Karimi captured some attention online after sharing such photos online where she was seen applying makeup before delivering her baby.
She later told ABC News:
“I went to the hospital at 7:30 a.m., and I was in labor for a total of 10 hours that day. I had an epidural around 8:30 or 9:00 a.m., so when it started to wear off, I needed something to distract myself from the pain.”
Of course, applying makeup before hitting the delivery room isn’t for everyone – and it’s important to consult with the doctors in order to check product safety before doing it.
As makeup artist Mary Irwin explained:
“Lists are always ordered from largest to smallest in terms of ingredient quantity. Remember, the first three things listed will be the most active. Also, the smaller the list, the less likely you are to have a reaction.”
Meanwhile, the Arizona OBGYN Affiliates tells us:
“Most makeup products, such as powders, foundations, mascaras, eyeliners, etc. are safe to use during pregnancy, as long as you avoid those makeup products that contain retinoids or salicylic acid.”
