"If you share a sense of what's funny, it affirms you and affirms your relationship through laughter.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve our closest relationships. Because intimacy is not the only important thing for our mental and physical health, most people seek to maximize their chances of finding and keeping the bonds of love alive in other ways.
As it turns out, it’s really not that hard to get a better chance of making a relationship work. In fact, it’s as easy as making each other laugh.
If you and your partner enjoy a good laugh, then it’s a very positive sign for your relationship.
For three decades, Jeffrey Hall from the University of Kansas had been conducting 39 studies that involved more than 15,000 people. After 30 years worth of research, he found out that humor is a huge part of having a successful relationship.
Hall said:
“People say they want a sense of humor in a mate, but that’s a broad concept. That people think you are funny or you can make a joke out of anything is not strongly related to relationship satisfaction.
What is strongly related to relationship satisfaction is the humor that couples create together.”
It is a given fact that when a couple is happy, the relationship lasts long. People want to look forward to seeing and talking to their partners because they know that they will lift them up especially when they’re feeling down.
He continued:
“Playfulness between romantic partners is a crucial component in bonding and establishing relational security. Particularly shared laughter is an important indicator of romantic attraction between potential mates.”
However, there’s a line between poking fun and being abusive. You both should be Laughing with each other, not at each other — please take note of that.
Hall shared:
“If you think that your partner tells mean-spirited jokes, then it’s likely you’ve seen that firsthand in your relationship.”
