Video Captures a Tender Moment Between A Rescued Chimp and A Primatologist

In light of the recent fiasco at the Cincinnati Zoo concerning Harambe the gorilla and the child who fell into its enclosure, a different kind of story has resurfaced in the internet – one of human kindness for primates.

In a short video uploaded on Youtube, a chimpanzee named Wounda is being released into the wild after being rehabilitated by the Goodall Institute’s Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center. Wounda, whose name translates to “close to death”, was found in a near-death state in Congo by the Goodall Institute.

After years of rehabilitation, Wounda was released back into the wild, by no less than the renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall herself. Dr. Goodall has been working with primates such as chimpanzees since the 1960s.

In the video, Wounda can be seen looking around the forest after being let out of her cage. Minutes later, she goes back to Dr. Goodall and shares a heartwarming hug with her.

Now, who wouldn’t be moved by such a tender hug between the two? The video just goes to show that love and caring transcends even the barriers between animals and humans.
