"All four of us were holding each other's hands as they were both removed from the ventilator."
They’ve been together as a married couple for 30 years. Unfortunately, coronavirus abruptly ended their sweet story.
Paul Blackwell, 62, and Rose Mary Blackwell, 65, recently died together in the hospital due to Covid-19 complications. When they passed away, they were holding each other’s hands and the hands of their children.
The husband and wife from Texas not only successfully raised their own family but also dedicated their lives to teaching their students.
Paul used to be a PE teacher and football coach at Fannin Middle School while Rose Mary taught second graders at Travis World Language Academy.
The couple worked until they got sick this month.
Sadly, doctors eventually informed the family that both of them do not have the chance to recover and so the hard decision to discontinue life support had to be done.
In an interview with CNN, their son Shawn Blackwell shared:
“Doctors said they hadn’t seen any progression at all, and they were slowly declining in their overall vital functions. It got to the point where it was very far gone and that there was nothing else they could do.
“Me and my brother came to the conclusion to let them go at peace together. They were together and holding hands. My brother and I were both holding my parent’s hands as well, so all four of us were holding each other’s hands as they were both removed from the ventilator.”
Grand Prairie Independent School District later issued a statement, paying tribute to the Blackwells, which reds:
“Rose Mary and Paul will be greatly missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family, friends, co-workers, and students both current and former.”
