"The past few months have proven we can make it work."
Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey has recently announced that the company will allow many of their employees to work from home as long as they want. This comes as their response to the coronavirus crisis which has led to the closure of many businesses across the globe.
According to Dorsey, some employees will have the option to continue working from their homes even after the pandemic ends. “Opening offices will be our decision,” he said. “When and if our employees come back, will be theirs.”
In an official email, Dorsey explained that all scheduled in-person events for the year are already cancelled and that Twitter will likely keep their doors closed before September. And yes, workers will have the opportunity to permanently do their jobs from the comfort of their own homes.
A spokesperson of the social media giant also shared:
“The past few months have proven we can make that work. So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen. If not, our offices will be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions, when we feel it’s safe to return.”
The new company policy comes as authorities continue to emphasize about the importance of observing physical distancing in public places, including offices.
Over the past several weeks, Amazon, Facebook, JPMorgan, Microsoft, Zillow, and other major companies have confirmed that they are extending their work-from-home policies.
