“The plane started shaking violently, and we lost altitude, and we started going down,” a passenger said.
Carrying 231 passengers and 10 crew members, United Airlines Flight 328 left the Denver International Airport at about 12 noon last Saturday. The aircraft was headed to Honolulu, Hawaii but it eventually had to make an emergency landing due to engine failure.
The said incident has been caught on camera and we see one of the plane’s engines in flames. “The plane started shaking violently, and we lost altitude, and we started going down,” said David Delucia, one of the passengers,. “When it initially happened, I thought we were done. I thought we were going down.”
In an official statement, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed:
“A Boeing 777-200 operated by United Airlines returned to Denver International Airport and landed safely Saturday after experiencing a right-engine failure shortly after takeoff. The passengers deplaned on Runway 26-Right and were bused to the terminal.”
Authorities in Broomfield, Colorado eventually started receiving calls about large metal debris falling from the sky.
Rachel Welte, spokesperson of the police, told reporters:
“A lot of people said they heard a really loud explosion, which startled a lot of people, and then they just started seeing basically (what) they thought was a plane falling from the sky.”
Several homes and vehicles have been damaged by the debris across three neighborhoods. Fortunately, no injuries were reported both on the ground and among those on the plane.
Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the cause of the engine failure.
