Now the rescue team saves 40,000 lives in 3 minutes each year!
When it comes to emergencies, every second counts and so it’s often incredibly alarming when help doesn’t arrive on time. This is a reality that many of us live in and it’s a fact that people die every day because of it.
Just imagine a rushing ambulance getting stuck in heavy urban traffic and then reaching a victim a few minutes late. Of course, the same can likewise be said about people from rural places who live too far from medical facilities.
Beer, who used to be an EMT in Jerusalem in his younger years, saw the problem and later decided to do something about it.
As a teen, he witnessed a bus bombing and personally saw how emergency rescue resources failed to reach victims. The shocking experience motivated him to be an ambulance volunteer at the tender age of 15.
By age 17, he took it to the next level and started organizing a volunteer unit in Jerusalem. With donations from the community, they were able to purchase the needed communication gear and medical equipment.
The group established a reputation for being the first EMS to introduce the Ambucycle –a motorcycle carrying its own medical equipment and supplies such as a trauma kit, an oxygen canister, a blood sugar monitor, and an automated external defibrillator.
What’s also amazing about United Hatzalah is that it is entirely run by volunteers – people from all walks of life – and their services are completely free. Now they’re known as the rescue team that saves 40,000 lives in 3 minutes.
The non-profit organization was recently featured by popular vlogger Nas Daily and it gave us further appreciation for what they do.
