Rosa opted to donate 4-feet of her hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that creates wigs for children suffering from cancer.
“A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.”
— Coco Chanel
Indeed, this saying is true for Rosa Ramirez, a Michigan woman who hadn’t cut her hair for the last 25 years.
For years, Rosa’s friends tried to convince her to change her look.
“A lot of my friends have been asking when I’m going to cut it for years,” Rosa said.
Her hair had grown up to her ankles and it was the perfect time for her to get a hair makeover.
“We love to see different things done on customers — different styles — and we meet very often and I always see her the same way,” salon owner Eda Motchka told WXYZ-TV Detroit.
Aside from having a new bob, Rosa had her hair chopped off to good use. Rosa opted to donate 4-feet of her hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that creates wigs for children suffering from cancer.
“I think it would make somebody’s day who’s suffering from a bad disease, it will make their day a little brighter,” she said.
Anyone can send hair donations as long as you follow the organization’s guidelines. The minimum length needed for a hairpiece is 10 inches from tip to tip. Your hair must be in ponytail or in braid before it is chopped or shaved off. This must be clean, completely dry and placed in a plastic bag before mailing.
Locks of Love accepts permed or coloured hair as well as layered hair as long as the longest layer is 10 inches. Bleached, dreadlocks and hair that is swept off the floor are considered not usable.
Hair donations must be sent to Locks of Love at 234 Souther Blvd. West Palm Beach, Florida 33405-2701.
