This shocking story will definitely give you a headache!
For several months, a 31-year-old woman from Garland, Texas had been enduring debilitating headaches.
After her headaches got worse resulting to vision loss, Yadira Rostro sought the help of doctors to find out what causes it.
Doctors were shocked to find 8 tapeworm eggs lodged firmly in Rostro’s brain. Sacs of larvae had began to grown in her brain, surviving off Rostor’s blood supply.
Apparently, Rostro got the tapeworms during a trip to Mexico two years ago.
According to experts, these tapeworms are often found in food contaminated with fecal matter. In most cases, these get eliminated out of the body in a matter of days.
In Yadira’s case, the larvae got into her bloodstream and eventually into her brain.
“They looked a little bit like eggs, and they have a clear sac. And inside it, a small tapeworm,” Dr. Richard Meyrat, a neurosurgeon at Methodist Dallas Medical Center said.
Fortunately, the doctors were able to remove the eggs from Rostro’s brain. She is expected to make a full recovery soon.
