WHO Investigators Say Wuhan Lab Leak Theory Is “Extremely Unlikely”

• An international team sent to Wuhan by the World Health Organization has said that the coronavirus lab leak theory is “extremely unlikely.”
• Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, however, said that the group had limited access to data while they were conducting investigations in China.
• As far as WHO is concerned, “all hypothesis remain on the table,” said the WHO official.

An international team of experts sent by the World Health Organization (WHO) to investigate the origins of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China recently made a conclusion: It is “extremely unlikely” that the virus came from a top laboratory in the city.

First detected in China in late 2019, the coronavirus has since spread across the world and several conspiracy theories have since surfaced, with some believing that the virus leaked from a lab.

Case in point, it can be remembered that back in April 2020, then-United States President Donald Trump he is confident that the virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, adding that he had strong evidence to back the claim.

Beijing has often dismissed such claims and by the looks of it so far, WHO agrees that the theory is not likely.

Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, however, was quick to point out that “further investigation” is needed to completely rule out the lab leak theory and likewise mentioned that “as far as WHO is concerned, all hypothesis remain on the table.”

The research largely depended on evidence and samples obtained from Chinese officials. The WHO official also shared that the group experienced limited access to raw data.

As a result, USA, UK, Australia, South Korea and their allies expressed concern, saying that China should allow “full access” of information to experts, emphasizing that the investigation was “significantly delayed and lacked access to complete, original data and samples.”

According to reports, the WHO team had limited time conducting their investigations with only 4 hours spent at the virology institute and an hour at the wet market.
