Abandoned Albino Baby Ends Up Becoming A Vogue Model

• When she was a baby, Xueli was abandoned by her parents and was left outside an orphanage.
• She was later adopted by a Dutch family and is now a model.
• She is hoping to use her voice to raise awareness about albinism.

16 years ago, a baby girl was left right outside the door of a Chinese orphanage. The poor child was abandoned by her own parents because she had albinism, a disorder that causes absence of pigment in the skin, eyes, and hair.

By 3 years old, that little girl was fortunately adopted by a Dutch family and was taken to Netherlands. At the tender age of 11, she was able to penetrate the modeling industry.

Now Xueli Abbing has been featured in Vogue.

Aside from making it to the pretigious fashion magazine, Xueli has also been able to work with varioud brands and some of the top photographers in the industry.

Because of her condition, Xueli only has 8% to 10% of her vision so things can be a real struggle. “I hardly ever open my eyes during photoshoots because the light is almost always too bright,” she admitted, “When I do open my eyes, I mostly squeeze them.”

Despite this, her sister Yara – who also serves as Xueli’s photographer and social media manager – said:

“She works as a model in order to raise awareness around albinism and to show others that people with disabilities are ‘normal’ as well and can perfectly participate in society.”

As Xueli once told the media:

“I want other children with albinism—or any form of disability or difference—to know they can do and be anything they want. For me, I’m different in some ways but the same in others. I love sport and climbing and I can do it as well as anyone else. People might say you can’t do things but you can, just try.”
